National Center for Genome Medicine (NCGM), the former National Genotyping Center, was established in 2002. NCGM has successfully implemented several important genotyping platforms, three platforms are currently in service: (1) Short Tandem Repeat Polymorphism (STRP) genotyping platform (ABI 3730 DNA analyzer), (2) Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) genotyping based on Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry technology (Sequenom MassARRAY), (3) Affymetrix ultra high-throughput SNP genotyping platform (Affymetrix GeneTitan) based on high density oligo-nucleotide hybridization gene chip. The successful establishment of these three platforms enables NCGM the flexibility to meet various needs of users from different genome research fields, including human, animals and agriculture. In addition to providing high quality genotyping services, this center also has the statistics group which ensures good quality control for the services provided and the BioIT group who implemented tools for laboratory, sample and data management.
Moreover, the PI and co-PIs of this center carried out several extremely successful projects through collaborating with medical centers in Taiwan, and top international research institutes (such as RIKEN) as well as joining various international consortium (such as International Kawasaki Disease Consortium, AGEN consortium, etc.). With the good performance and experience of the center in the past years, we expect to support the work of academic, medical and industrial fields in Taiwan.
